In the News Today

After my workout and leisurely lunch with girlfriends, I headed home for the afternoon of cooking. Thursday night is my Daughters last day on the CNN Assignment Overnight Desk. For the last 4 months, she’s worked from 10:30p to 6:30a.

In that time – SOME of the things that happened:

The Egyptian President was overthrown, Syria gassed civilians and agreed to US proposal to destroy their chemical weapons instead of getting bombed into the next solar system, the Tea Party threw an imbecilic fit and shut down the government, the Democrats whupped the GOP’s ass and the Affordable Care Website made everyone scream. In lesser news – the Glee guy died and other assorted mayhem.

She’s been busy. She wrote 50+ articles for the CNN website. She showed excellent editorial judgment during both international and domestic breaking news, ran the largest newsgathering operation in the largest news organization singlehandedly and generally kicked ass in a spectacular manor. I could not be more proud of her.

Y’all should follow her on Twitter: @lbentzterp.

In honor of her accomplishments, I’m hosting dinner on Friday. I’ve been cooking for days. The menu: Eggplant parmesan (I made the roasted tomato sauce), anchovy and caper pasta, green beans with tomatoes, herb bread, chocolate espresso shortbread cookies for dessert.

Today I made the Eggplant Parmesan. HOLEY KRAP. It will taste amazing BUT I basically trashed the kitchen. It took every dish, cutting board, countertop and utensil I owned. The whole house smells like olive oil and garlic. Cleanup took hours and then I had to mop the kitchen floor and take a shower. I ate tuna from the can for dinner and am now DONE FOR THE DAY.
