Life at Boring Central

The world must be coming to an end.  Today I discovered my kids cleaning the basement.

I don’t know what was more shocking – that my Daughter was doing this, cheerfully, without being asked, or that my Son was willing muscle, hauling junk up the basement stairs.

Then my Son went and got his annual shearing.  He’d been looking particularly shaggy.  Suddenly, hair was gone.  He said all that hair was making him sweaty, so he had it buzzed off.  He looks movie star handsome.

Who are these people?

+++++

For all my guilt about lying on the couch reading and being lazy, I have absorbed some great books lately.  Anyone out there ever read Sarah Vowel?  I just finished “Assignation Vacation” and “The Slightly Cloudy Patriot.”  Both were intelligent and laugh out loud funny.

Then I got serious – which is a huge change of pace for this girl – and read:

The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity, and the Making of the Oxford English Dictionary by Simon Winchester.

Blind Side by Michael Lewis

Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson

Manhunt by James Swanson

The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz

March AND Year Of Wonders: A Novel about the Plague by Geraldine Brooks

Then I noticed I was getting calluses on my back from lying around with my nose in a book.  Plus, I need to talk to people again or I might forget how.  I plan to remain upright for a few weeks.  It will be a nice change of pace.

Mr. W and I (note: I bestirred myself to actually sit up the entire time) watched “Vantage Point” which is a smart political thriller type movie, well worth the rental fee.

Tomorrow I get tubes inserted in my eardrums, just as if I was six years old.  Hopefully this will help my ongoing fluid-behind-the-eardrum misery. The Dr says that it is going to hurt (he's never had children - what does he know, really?) so my Daughter is going to take me and drive me home.

“You owe me,” I told her, “for all that sitting around the hospital I did with you recently.”

“Whiner” she answered.  She is feeling great.  It makes me very happy.

So that’s the news from Boring Central.
