Wat Arun - The Temple of the Dawn

Wat Arun is named after the Indian (dot, not feather) god of dawn. It is built in the Khmer style and decorated with broken pieces of porcelain. It is striking, seen from the Chao Phraya River.

We took a ferry from Wat Pho, zipping across the river in a few minutes. Up close, it is awesome with awesome sauce.

There are Chinese Guards at the entrances to the terrace

The Chinese Guards compliment the porcelain ornamentation

We had to walk around the Soi Dog

This is one of the minor prangs

I liked the demons

Gary and I climbed all the way to the top of the Central Monument. Miss Peg and Leslie declined the thrill of the hand over hand climb. We jeered from the top. They ignored us. I realized that I was sweltering in the sun after a long climb and they were lounging in the shade. Genius moment!

Looking back across the river to Wat Pho made me realize how high up I was. It was an exciting climb down. Thai's don't believe in guardrails. Back on solid ground, we had ice cream sandwiches for lunch. It really was a perfect visit to a beautiful place.
